More details:

AdGuard DNS is soon to roll out a new feature allowing devices to connect through a unique IPv4 address, giving users more control in setting up their DNS server. However, this also makes IPv4 addresses vulnerable to DNS amplification attacks (a kind of DDoS attack), potentially overloading the network and incurring costs for unauthorized requests logged in the Query log.

To address these risks, AdGuard DNS v2.5 introduces enhanced access settings before adding the IPv4 connectivity option. These settings aim to safeguard users and ensure that only authorized entities use their server.

Key Features:

  1. Strict Request Control: New access settings provide rigorous monitoring.
  2. Access Settings: Includes parameters for refined access management.

New Parameters:

  • Allowed Clients: Designate who can use your DNS server.
  • Disallowed Clients: List entities barred from using your server.
  • Disallowed Domains: Specify banned domains and filtering rules.

These configurations transform your AdGuard DNS into an efficient "gatekeeper," selectively processing requests. Unauthorized requests won’t be logged, avoiding unnecessary charges.

To view IP addresses linked to DNS queries in the Query log, activate the 'Log IP address' option in Server settings → Advanced settings.

Additionally, AdGuard DNS now offers an expanded range of customizable user rules, varying by subscription type:

  • Starter: 100 rules
  • Personal: 1,000 rules
  • Team: 5,000 to 50,000 rules
  • Enterprise: Over 50,000 rules
