Is the .local DNS domain name reserved?

I hadn't really looked into this before, but did you know the .local DNS name is a reserved DNS zone that is reserved for multicast traffic? You can use the following in line with RFC documentation, but not .local. Check this out here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special-use_domain_name

intranet. Used for Private/internal DNS Namespaces RFC 6762 (Appendix G)
