Proxmox Training

Proxmox Training is a Premium video training course with hands-on videos demonstrating and covering many of the things I use regularly with Proxmox VE in the home lab. The goal with this series is to keep things practical and hands on. I am not just talking through features or reading documentation. In each video, we actually work through the configuration, show how the feature works, and point out the things I think are worth knowing before you try it yourself in your home lab or learning environment. Across the series, we cover storage, networking, security, containers, monitoring, migrations, upgrades, and several of the newer Proxmox features. There are many new features that are becoming more important as the platform continues to mature. Premium members can watch each video in the series. • Add iSCSI storage in Proxmox VE Server I show how to connect Proxmox VE to Synology iSCSI storage. We create the iSCSI target and LUN, configure the networking, add the storage in Proxmox, create LVM on top of it, and look at a few troubleshooting issues I ran into along the way.
• Adding Proxmox ISO storage I show how to add a dedicated disk for ISO storage when the default local Proxmox storage is too small. We create directory-based storage and make it available for larger installation ISO files.
• Monitoring Proxmox with Pulse I show how to deploy Pulse, a lightweight open source monitoring tool built specifically for Proxmox VE. We connect Proxmox nodes and Docker hosts, look at VM and container monitoring, storage, backups, alerts, and some of the setup issues I encountered.
• Proxmox Ceph Installation and Configuration I show how to build a three-node Proxmox cluster with Ceph storage. We create the cluster, install Ceph, configure OSDs, monitors, and storage pools, and then test the finished setup with a live virtual machine migration.
• Proxmox Datacenter Manager 1.1 I take a look at the major features in Proxmox Data Center Manager 1.1, including automated installations, centralized subscription management, Ceph health visibility, local metrics, and other improvements to centralized Proxmox management.
• Proxmox Home Lab Containers I compare Docker inside a virtual machine, native LXC containers, and the new OCI image support in Proxmox VE 9.1. We look at where each option makes sense and where the limitations start to show up.
• Proxmox SDN I show how Proxmox Software-Defined Networking can simplify networking across a multi-node cluster. We work with zones, VNets, VLANs, and centralized network configuration, and I also compare the experience to VMware vSphere Distributed Switches.
• Proxmox VE 9 Security Hardening I walk through several practical ways to improve the security of a Proxmox VE 9 host. We cover SSH hardening, the Proxmox firewall, trusted SSL certificates, two-factor authentication, updates, role-based access control, backup security, logging, and management network security.
• Running pfSense on Proxmox I show how to install pfSense as a virtual machine on Proxmox VE. We configure the WAN and LAN networking, create the VM, install pfSense, assign the interfaces, and complete the initial firewall configuration.
• Upgrading Proxmox VE Server 8 to 9 I walk through the upgrade from Proxmox VE 8 to Proxmox VE 9 step by step. We update the existing host, run the pve8to9 compatibility checker, change the repositories from Debian Bookworm to Trixie, complete the upgrade, and verify the finished Proxmox VE 9 installation.
• Using the Proxmox Migration Wizard I show how to migrate a virtual machine from VMware ESXi to Proxmox VE using the built-in ESXi Import Wizard. We prepare the Proxmox host, connect to the ESXi storage, review the import settings, move the virtual machine, and confirm that it boots successfully on Proxmox.
