Exchange 2010 SP1 Mailbox role fails to install

In working with a client on an Exchange 2010 SP1 mailbox server installation, the mailbox role failed to installed on a particular server.  There were many errors in the Application event log having to do with permissions.  In checking the permissions assigned to other servers that were healthy in the environment, the group that the troubled server was not a member of was the “Exchange Domain Servers” group.  According to MS the exchange 2010 server does not need to be in this group, but adding our Exchange 2010 mailbox server to this group resolved a lot of errors in the application event log and the servers seems happy now.

It is my intent to do more research on this matter when I find time and will post my findings on Computer-howto.
