Home Lab Explorers School for learning Proxmox DevOps Kubernetes and more!

There are so many great resources out on the Internet to learn about things, especially now with AI. However, the sense of community is also an important aspect of learning and staying motivated. I have been working to share my knowlege and passion for home lab environments with the masses through this blog as well as my YouTube Channel. However, I wanted to create something that was a bit more structured with resources at everyone’s fingertips along with a sense of community. So, I have spun up a new group on Skool – Home Lab Explorers! Let me show you what this is about and why you should join.
What is Skool?
I have heard rumblings about Skool through the community and various other things I am interested in. After checking it out, it is a great place to build communities. Skool is a place that brings together the learning and community aspect along with gamification of the environment to help with staying motivated. Check out the official site here and what it is about: Skool online community.
HomeLabExplorers!
I have created a new group (what Skool calls a distinct community) where we can discuss, create meet ups, post classes, and other resources for the community. It has been my desire for a while to have a more structured way to post educational content helping ones with home lab topics, virtualization, containers, DevOps, Kubernetes, server hardware, etc. Introducing: HomeLabExplorers!
Look for the classroom to fill out as time goes along, but there are already some really great items in the classroom section already, including:
- Proxmox Up and Running – over 300+ page e-book
- Home Lab Beginner Worksheets – Worksheets and checklists for home lab learning
- Nested Virtualization – An e-book guide to nested virtualization in Proxmox and VMware ESXi
- Proxmox Ceph Storage Deep Dive – Video walking you through setting up Ceph storage in Proxmox
My plans and what to expect
Creating content and a place like this is a LOT of work. Content creation in general is a lot of work. Keep in mind I do this on top of my day job and other responsibilities. However, I want to see where this goes and I am hoping it will be a place of discussion, community, and learning that will grow and, ultimately, help ones wanting to learn new skills and technologies.
I plan on creating full courses on the following topics:
- Getting started with Docker
- Docker Swarm
- Building a Docker home lab
- Building a Kubernetes Home Lab
- Proxmox training
- VMware vSphere training
- Basic and advanced networking
- DevOps concepts
- Infrastructure as code
- Docker Compose
- YAML
- CI/CD pipelines
- …more
Hopefully there will be enough interest as well as time goes along to organize some coffee chats and other community events online to bring together this awesome community around something many of us are passionate about – home labs and learning.
These are just a few of the classes I hope to create over the coming weeks. Let me know your thoughts on topics that would be helpful to you as a home lab enthusiast and one who wants to learn.
To those that have signed up for the newsletter on VirtualizationHowto I will send a link to the group as an invitation to sign up. Do look for that coming through soon. I will have more updates on everything coming shortly.
In the meantime, if you read this post and want to join up on the Skool group, be sure to click the link here to sign up:
More to come!
Keep an eye open for more updates on VHT as well as YouTube for Home Lab Explorers. Still expect great blog content here and the normal YouTube content as well. This is putting my feelers out in the education space to hopefully have a more structured way for learning on various topics that interest the home lab community. Let me know in the comments what types of content you might be looking to learn, skills, etc.
