About this video
In this video, I walk through how to install Proxmox VE Server step by step using the graphical installer. Installing Proxmox is a foundational skill for building a home lab or virtualization environment, and the process is straightforward once you understand the key decisions presented during setup. We start by downloading and mounting the Proxmox VE ISO image, booting the server, and selecting the graphical installation option. We then explain how to choose the correct target disk and why it is important to verify your selection before continuing, since the installer will repartition the drive and overwrite its existing contents.
From there, we configure the country, time zone, keyboard layout, root password, and administrative email address. We also work through the Proxmox network configuration, including selecting the active network adapter, entering a fully qualified domain name, assigning a static management IP address, and verifying the gateway and DNS server settings. I also point out the network interface pinning option included in Proxmox VE 9.
After reviewing the installation summary, we install Proxmox VE, allow the server to reboot, and verify that it reaches the console successfully. Finally, I demonstrate how to connect to the Proxmox web interface using HTTPS on port 8006, sign in with the root account, and confirm that the management interface is working correctly. By the end of this tutorial, you will know how to install Proxmox VE Server from an ISO, configure its initial storage and network settings, and access the web interface so you can begin creating virtual machines, containers, storage, and other home lab resources.
